CAERPHILLY PAEDOPHILE JAILED FOR DOWNLOADING CHILD PICTURES
A man convicted of possessing nearly 60,000 indecent images of children has been sentenced to prison.Gareth Harris, from Pen Y Bryn in Penyrheol, Caerphilly, was residing with a co-worker last year after being asked to leave his brother William’s home, the court was told by prosecutor Peter Donnison.
When Harris’ co-worker questioned William about his eviction, he claimed it was because he suspected his brother was a paedophile.
The co-worker then asked Harris to show his phone, and upon doing so, noticed him covertly slipping a second phone into his pocket.
The co-worker demanded the second device and, after examining its contents, reported Harris to the authorities.
On August 26, William Harris provided police with a SIM card belonging to his brother that contained numerous indecent images and videos of children as young as three.
A total of 59,950 images were recovered from the devices.
Police traced Harris to a farm in Abergavenny on December 7, where he was arrested and confessed to the charges.
During sentencing, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke stated that she did not believe Harris showed remorse, although he expressed feelings of shame during police interviews.
Harris was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison for possessing Category A indecent images.
Additionally, he received a concurrent 12-month sentence for possessing images classified as Category B and Category C.
Harris is required to register as a sex offender for ten years and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration.
