WEST YORKSHIRE POLICE OFFICER GUILTY OF DOMESTIC ABUSE AND ASSAULT
A member of West Yorkshire Police, Detective Sergeant Gareth Greenwood, aged 42, has been proven guilty of multiple domestic assault offences.Greenwood, who worked within the Bradford district, was convicted during a court hearing of two counts of common assault committed outside of work hours.
The incidents occurred in Baildon on April 29, 2022, targeting a single victim.
At the time of the incidents, Greenwood was serving as a temporary Detective Inspector.
On April 6, he received an 18-month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay prosecution costs of £625 and a victim surcharge of £22.
Nicola Bryar, Detective Chief Superintendent at West Yorkshire Police’s Professional Standards Directorate, explained that the case was founded on strong evidence, reflecting their dedication to addressing misconduct by police officers.
She stressed their ongoing efforts to protect women and girls from violence and the threat of violence.
Bryar mentioned that the investigation was completed swiftly, and disciplinary action would now commence against Greenwood.
She also urged anyone who has experienced domestic abuse—whether the perpetrator is a police officer or not—to report it, and advised concerned friends or family members to seek assistance.
The police confirmed they have updated their Domestic Abuse Policy to ensure all allegations against employees are investigated comprehensively and fairly by their Professional Standards unit.
