FRAZER BONNER FROM DARTFORD SENTENCED FOR KIDNAPPING AND SEXUAL ASSAULT NEAR DARTFORD
In April 2001, a harrowing incident unfolded in Dartford when a nine-year-old girl was abducted and subjected to a terrifying ordeal by a man named Frazer Bonner. The young girl, who was walking alone to her brownies meeting, was unexpectedly approached by Bonner, who threatened her with a knife.According to court proceedings, Bonner, aged 41 and residing on Highfield Road in Dartford, pulled out a knife and pressed the blunt edge against the girl’s throat as she was walking through a subway. He threatened to kill her if she did not comply with his demands, instilling immediate fear and panic in the young victim.
After threatening her with the weapon, Bonner took hold of her wrist and led her to his flat located on Highfield Road. Once there, he attempted to have sexual intercourse with her and subsequently forced her to perform sexual acts, causing immense trauma to the young girl.
Prosecutor Eleanor Laws detailed the severity of the attack, emphasizing that the girl’s usual routine involved being driven to her brownies meeting, but on this particular day, she chose to walk alone, which led to her encounter with Bonner.
Following his arrest the next day, Bonner admitted to having consumed five pints of strong lager along with painkillers and anti-depressants, which may have affected his behavior.
During the court hearing, Bonner’s defense lawyer, Kevin Sparks, acknowledged the gravity of his client’s actions, stating, “He accepts he will have a substantial sentence. He accepts it is right and he deserves it.”
Judge Anthony Balston sentenced Bonner to ten years in prison for kidnapping and attempted rape. Additionally, he received an eight-year sentence for indecent assault, to run concurrently. The judge also expressed concern over Bonner’s criminal history, which includes previous convictions for unlawful sexual activity with a girl aged 15 and possession of a knife.
Furthermore, the judge ordered that Bonner would be under supervision for the entire duration of his license period upon release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
Acting Detective Inspector Dave Britain commented on the case, describing it as one of the most heinous crimes he had encountered in his 24 years of service. He expressed strong opinions about Bonner’s dangerousness, stating, “In my opinion, no child is safe around Frazer Bonner and never will be. I believe the judge was lenient.”
