FAY COOPER STALKING INCIDENT NEAR KELSO: LANCASHIRE WOMAN ORDERED TO GOOD BEHAVIOUR
Fay Cooper, a 54-year-old woman originally from Lancashire, has recently admitted to engaging in a stalking offence that took place near Kelso. The incident, which occurred on March 13, has led to her being ordered to maintain good behaviour for the next six months by the court.According to court records, Cooper pleaded guilty to conduct that was likely to cause fear and alarm at a property close to Kelso. The charges also included her attending at a man’s residence after being explicitly told not to do so. The court heard that Cooper’s actions were linked to a recent breakup with the man, which had lasted for approximately six weeks. The relationship ended on the day of the incident, with the man informing Cooper that she was no longer welcome at his home.
Prosecutor India McLean provided details to Jedburgh Sheriff Court, explaining that Cooper’s behaviour was concerning. She described how Cooper took an extended period to leave her vehicle at Tweedbank Railway Station, indicating a reluctance to depart. Subsequently, she returned to the man’s residence, where she was seen banging on the door and attempting to gain entry despite being told to stay away. The man was reportedly alarmed by her travel distance, especially considering she was traveling without a car, which added to his concern.
Following these events, the man contacted the police, who responded promptly. Cooper was removed from the area and taken to Kelso town centre. Despite being instructed to leave the premises, she returned again and was seen banging on the door once more. She refused to cooperate with police officers who arrived to manage the situation.
During the hearing, her legal representative, Liam Alexander, explained that her behaviour was influenced by heavy drinking and struggles with alcohol, which he said contributed to her actions during their brief relationship, which they initially met online.
Sheriff Peter Paterson decided to defer her sentencing until October 7, allowing her the opportunity to demonstrate good behaviour. The sheriff issued a stern warning that if Cooper misbehaves again, she will face admonishment, emphasizing the seriousness of her actions and the court’s expectations for her conduct moving forward.
