FIFE MAN JAILED FOR ‘GROSS AND GROTESQUE’ CAMPAIGN OF DOMESTIC ABUSE
Ewan McDowall, a 41-year-old man from Fife, was sentenced to 34 months in jail after being found guilty of a domestic abuse campaign involving multiple acts of violence and intimidation. The court described his actions as "gross and grotesque," including locking his partner in a flat, threatening her and her family, and repeatedly assaulting her over a period of more than six years.
His abusive behavior also included threatening texts, phone calls, and emails, slashing furniture with a knife, and throwing household items.
In December 2016, McDowall abducted his partner by locking her inside a house before launching a savage attack that involved punching and striking her on the head and body, while brandishing a knife.
He also visited her place of work, a primary school in Fife, rifling through her desk and sending threatening emails.
During the sentencing at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Sheriff Alistair Thornton commented on the "gross and grotesque" level of abuse and determined that prison was necessary.
McDowall, currently incarcerated at HMP Perth, was also ordered to stay away from his victim for five years through a non-harassment order.
Detective Inspector Hannah Morrison of Fife’s Domestic Abuse Unit expressed approval of the sentence, noting the bravery of the victims and stating that the police are committed to tackling domestic abuse in all its forms.
The court case highlights the severity and persistence of McDowall's abusive actions, which culminated in a significant custodial sentence and ongoing restrictions to prevent future contact.
