EUGEN ANDREI SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS IN LUTON FOR RAPE OF YOUNG GIRL
In May 2023, a young girl who endured a traumatic series of sexual assaults expressed her relief and hope for a brighter future after her attacker was handed a lengthy prison sentence.Eugen Andrei, aged 36 and residing in Luton, was convicted of multiple heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a minor over a period of one year.
The victim, whose courage in coming forward led to the arrest, shared her feelings of safety and liberation during a victim impact statement read aloud in court.
The investigation was initiated shortly after the girl disclosed the abuse to police in May 2022.
Bedfordshire Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) team swiftly responded, leading to Andrei’s arrest within days of the report.
The case proceeded to a five-day trial at Huntington Crown Court earlier this year, where the evidence against Andrei was thoroughly examined.
During the trial, the jury found Andrei guilty of four counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act.
These serious charges underscored the gravity of his actions and the impact on the young victim.
On Friday, May 5, the court sentenced Andrei to serve 16 years in prison for his crimes.
Additionally, he was given a four-year license period upon release, ensuring continued supervision and restrictions to prevent further harm.
In her statement, the young girl expressed her feelings of safety now that Andrei is behind bars.
She stated, “Knowing that he can’t get to me now makes me feel safe, and I feel so much more free than I used to.
I can go back to leading a normal life and going out to places with my friends and family.” Her words reflect the profound relief and hope for recovery that many victims seek after such traumatic experiences.
