BELLSHILL RAPIST ASKED WOMAN TO "GREEN LIGHT" HIM INTO HAVING SEX
A rapist who wanted a woman to "green light" him into having sex has been locked up for five and a half years.McNulty - who was then 18 - forced himself on the victim at his home in Bellshill, Lanarkshire on November 15, 2022.
He also raped another young woman that year.
Jurors heard he put an intimate photo of a third female on social media without her knowledge.
He was aged 21 at sentencing, and had earlier been convicted following a trial.
The court heard McNulty targeted one of the victims while she was unwell, and when she spent the night at his home.
Judge Douglas Brown told McNulty: "You asked her to 'green light' you making her allow you to have sex with her, but she did not want that and said 'red light'.
Despite that and her efforts, you had sexual intercourse with her without her consent." The other attack occurred while the second victim was at her home in Hamilton, when McNulty tried to kiss her.
She told him she did not want to have sex, but he pinned her down and raped her.
Both victims continue to be badly affected; one was so depressed and anxious she quit her job and still suffers flashbacks and sleep issues.
The victim of the intimate photo incident was humiliated and embarrassed, and McNulty also physically attacked her.
He was found guilty of two rapes, assaulting another woman, and causing her fear, alarm, or distress.
He is now on the sex offenders list indefinitely and banned from approaching any of the victims for the next 10 years.
