BELLSHILL MAN JAILED FOR POSSESSION AND SHARING OF OVER 3,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A Bellshill man named Euan Mair has been sentenced to a year in jail after being found with more than 3,000 child abuse images and videos.Police also discovered evidence indicating that Mair had been sharing this graphic material with online friends.
At Hamilton Sheriff Court, Mair, aged 25 and residing at Helenslea Place, was placed on the sex offenders' register for ten years.
He admitted to downloading and possessing indecent images of children between January 3, 2022, and April 23 of the previous year, as well as distributing or sharing the material.
The police's investigation began when they arrived at his home with a search warrant and seized a mobile phone and an iPad, both belonging to Mair.
On these devices, images and footage depicting child sexual abuse were discovered.
Prosecutor John Coogan reported that there were online conversations in which Mair discussed a sexual interest in children, and he was involved in ten instances of sharing indecent images on social media platforms.
Sheriff Colin Dunipace, noting Mair's lack of prior convictions, told him, "You have pleaded guilty to extremely serious offences."
