ETHAN PRICE SHOCKING ATTACK IN NEWCASTLE-UNDER-LYME: VICTIM LEFT UNCONSCIOUS AFTER BRUTAL PUNCH
Ethan Price, a 24-year-old man from Newcastle-under-Lyme, narrowly escaped immediate imprisonment despite committing a violent assault on the mother of his child, an incident that has shocked the local community and highlighted ongoing concerns about domestic violence.According to court reports, the assault occurred during a night out in Newcastle-under-Lyme, following a dispute that escalated after Price’s ex-partner blocked his phone number. The confrontation quickly turned violent when Price, a roofer by profession, struck her with a forceful punch in an alleyway. CCTV footage captured the chilling moment as the attack unfolded, showing Price delivering a powerful blow that caused the woman to fall backwards and lose consciousness.
Prosecutor Jo Fox described the scene, stating, 'She falls onto her back unconscious and hits her head.' Fortunately, her friends, along with doormen and police officers who responded promptly, managed to assist her. They placed her in the recovery position to prevent further injury. Fox emphasized the seriousness of the injury, noting, 'This could have been a fatality because of the force and how hard she fell.' The footage also revealed Price fleeing the scene immediately after the assault, leaving the victim lying on the ground.
The court proceedings highlighted that the assault was aggravated by its domestic violence context. It was also revealed that Price had previous convictions for violence in 2019, adding weight to the court’s concerns. During the hearing at North Staffordshire Justice Centre, it was made clear that the attack was impulsive, triggered during an argument.
Price ultimately pleaded guilty to a charge of assault. His defense attorney described the incident as 'an impulsive, short-lived assault,' and pointed out that Price shares a very young child with the victim. In his statement, Price expressed remorse for his actions, revealing that he is currently undergoing mental health treatment and hopes to serve as a positive role model for his son.
Despite the guilty plea, the court handed down a sentence of 24 weeks in prison, which was suspended for 18 months. Additionally, Price is required to cooperate with probation services and pay a court fee of £239. Magistrate Susan Sutton addressed the court, emphasizing the gravity of the offense. She remarked, 'We’ve listened extremely carefully to your case, and we’ve also watched very clear CCTV footage. We also saw you fled the scene and left the victim there on the ground after giving her one single punch.' She further underscored the seriousness of domestic violence, stating, 'That is very, very serious offending.' The case underscores the judiciary’s firm stance on domestic violence incidents, recognizing the significant danger they pose to victims and the importance of holding offenders accountable.
