EDWARD LOWE OF BARTON-UPON-HUMBER AND SANDHURST SENTENCED FOR MULTIPLE SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST CHILDREN

In a series of disturbing criminal cases spanning several decades, Edward Lowe, a man with a troubling history of sexual offenses against minors, has been subjected to multiple convictions and extended sentences. Lowe, aged 70 and formerly residing in Elswick Gardens, Barton-upon-Humber, has faced justice for heinous crimes committed both in the late 1970s and more recently in 2012.

His criminal record includes a previous 12-year prison sentence handed down in 2013 for a series of indecent assaults and rapes that occurred during the late 1970s. These offenses involved young girls and were committed while Lowe was living in Berkshire. The details of these crimes came to light after a girl, who was just 12 years old at the time, came forward to authorities, claiming that Lowe had raped her in 2012. This revelation prompted a renewed investigation, which culminated in Lowe's conviction at Grimsby Crown Court.

Following his latest conviction, Lowe, who is currently incarcerated at Parkhurst Prison, was sentenced to an additional eight years in prison. This sentence is to be served consecutively, effectively increasing his total time behind bars to 20 years. The decision to extend Lowe’s sentence was supported by the CPS reviewing lawyer, as it was deemed to be in the public interest to impose a more severe penalty given the nature of his crimes. Detective Constable Mark Lilleyman, who led the investigation, expressed his approval of the decision, emphasizing the importance of holding offenders accountable and protecting the community.

Earlier, in August 2013, Lowe was convicted at Reading Crown Court of multiple offenses committed in Sandhurst and surrounding areas. He was sentenced to 12 years for crimes including indecent assault and rape of a teenage girl. These offenses spanned from 1977 to 1979, with Lowe being found guilty of three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 16, as well as the rape of a girl under 16 during the same period. The crimes took place while Lowe was residing in Elswick Gardens, Barton-upon-Humber, and involved sexual assaults that occurred between May 1975 and May 1980 while he was living in Berkshire.

Detective Constable Eddie Hurley from the Windsor Child Abuse Investigation Unit praised the bravery of the victims who came forward, acknowledging the courage it takes to relive such traumatic experiences in court. Hurley emphasized that these crimes robbed young girls of their innocence and caused them lasting fear. He also urged other victims of sexual abuse to come forward, assuring them that no matter how much time has passed, their cases will be taken seriously and justice will be pursued. The ongoing efforts to bring Lowe to justice highlight the importance of safeguarding children and ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their actions across different regions and time periods.
