EDWARD COYSH FROM WAKEFIELD SENTENCED FOR DECADES-OLD CHILD RAPE CASE IN LIVERPOOL
In a case that has spanned nearly six decades, a man from Wakefield has been brought to justice for heinous crimes committed against a young girl many years ago.Edward Coysh, aged 71 and residing on Burkill Street in Wakefield, was recently convicted in Liverpool Crown Court after a thorough trial process.
Coysh was found guilty of six separate counts of raping a female under the age of 16, with the offenses dating back to the early 1960s, specifically between 1961 and 1967.
The lengthy period over which these crimes occurred highlights the disturbing nature of the case and the challenges faced in bringing such allegations to light after so many years.
Following the verdict, Coysh was sentenced to a term of 10 years in prison.
The sentencing has been seen as a significant step in the pursuit of justice for victims of childhood abuse, especially in cases where the crimes occurred decades in the past.
Det Chief Insp John Williams expressed his sentiments regarding the sentencing, stating, “No sentence will ever be long enough to rectify the ordeal this victim has faced, however I hope this sentencing of Coysh lifts a weight from her shoulders and allows her to move forward knowing he is finally behind bars.” The case underscores the importance of perseverance in criminal investigations, particularly in cases involving historical abuse allegations.
