CAERPHILLY PAEDOPHILE TOLD POLICE: ‘I JUST DON’T CARE’
A PAEDOPHILE caught reoffending during a suspended prison sentence told a police officer, “I just don’t care” when asked why he had done it.
Dylan Greenhalgh, 23, from Caerphilly was handed the suspended sentence last year after being convicted of sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl when he was much younger.
He pleaded guilty to this offence as well as making an indecent image of a child, possession of a prohibited image of a child, and possession of extreme pornography involving bestiality.
As a result of this, he was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order which imposed strict restrictions on his internet use.
Cat Jones, prosecuting, said Blackwood police were monitoring him and they found that Greenhalgh had breached the terms of this order “a number of times”.
These breaches included using five aliases on Snapchat, having three unregistered devices, and having VPN installed on a phone.
One arresting officer asked him why he did so, to which he replied: “I just don’t care.” He later gave a no comment interview to detectives.
Greenhalgh, of Commercial Street, Aberbargoed, admitted breaching the sexual harm prevention order between April 1 and September 4.
His barrister, Richard Ace, said the defendant is still only a young man with some immaturity and understood his offending.
He also mentioned that Greenhalgh had been a gamer, leading an isolated life, but had started socialising while remanded following arrest.
Judge Catherine Richards told him: “These were persistent breaches that are aggravated by your previous convictions.
You were also the subject of a suspended prison sentence at the time.
Despite the support you were given, you continued to reoffend.” Greenhalgh was jailed for two years, serving half in custody before release on license.
He will also pay a victim surcharge.
