DUANE DU PREEZ FROM ST IVES SENTENCED FOR REPEATEDLY RAPING YOUNG GIRL IN CAMBRIDGE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Duane Du Preez, a 42-year-old man from St Ives, was convicted of multiple heinous crimes involving a young girl over a period exceeding six months.The abuse began in 2021, with the victim revealing the details of her ordeal in May of that year, prompting a police investigation that ultimately led to Du Preez's arrest.
During police interviews, Du Preez initially denied all allegations, attempting to dismiss the accusations as false.
However, under further questioning, he eventually confessed to a total of nine charges.
These included causing a child to engage in sexual activity, four counts of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13, and four counts of raping a girl under the age of 13.
The severity and repeated nature of his offenses underscored the gravity of the case.
Du Preez’s residence on Rubens Way in St Ives was the location where these crimes were committed, and his actions have left a lasting impact on the victim and her family.
The case was brought before Cambridge Crown Court, where justice was served on October 21.
The court sentenced Du Preez to a substantial term of 12 years and four months in prison, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes.
In addition to his prison sentence, Du Preez was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, a measure designed to monitor and prevent further offenses.
He was also issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which will remain in effect until further notice, restricting his activities and contact with minors.
Furthermore, a restraining order was put in place to prevent any contact between Du Preez and the victim, ensuring her safety and peace of mind moving forward.
