DOMINIC HAMBERG'S SHOCKING ABUSE IN CREWE: EX-CONNEXIONS WORKER SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL MISCONDUCT
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Crewe, Dominic Hamberg, aged 39, has been found guilty of abusing his position of trust as a careers advisor to attempt to establish a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy.The incident unfolded within the context of his role at the youth careers service Connexions, where he was responsible for guiding and supporting young individuals in their career development.
The court proceedings revealed that Hamberg, residing at Delamere Court in Crewe, initially maintained a professional relationship with the teenage boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
However, approximately six weeks after Hamberg ceased to be the boy’s personal advisor and was no longer involved in his activities, he began to send an alarming series of text messages.
In just a few days, he sent the boy a total of 191 messages, many of which contained suggestive content.
Prosecutor Andrew McInnes detailed some of these messages, which included phrases such as “Do you want to be boyfriends?” and “I want to be with you,” among others that were more overtly provocative.
The court was informed that the boy had initially given Hamberg his mobile number to receive updates about football sessions, a seemingly innocent gesture that was exploited by Hamberg for inappropriate communication.
During a video-link testimony, the teenage boy explained that he responded to Hamberg’s messages only when the advisor was being friendly, but he had made it clear he did not want to hear certain things.
His testimony underscored the uncomfortable and coercive nature of the exchanges.
Hamberg’s defense, led by lawyer Tom Bureau, argued that there was no case to answer since Hamberg was no longer in a position of trust at the time of the messages and was not involved in any activities related to the youth service.
Despite this, the magistrates found sufficient evidence to convict him of inciting sexual activity with a minor while in a position of trust.
The court deferred sentencing until February 27, where Hamberg was given a sentence of 12 months of community service, along with 12 months of probation.
He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register and pay court costs amounting to £250.
This case highlights the serious breach of trust and the dangers of inappropriate conduct by individuals in positions of authority over vulnerable young people, especially within community and youth services in Crewe.
