MAN WHO RAPED SON'S FRIEND IN MAGALUF HOTEL ROOM IS JAILED FOR FOUR YEARS
A man who admitted to sexually assaulting his son’s female friend in a hotel room in Magaluf has received a four-year prison sentence.Spanish prosecutors had initially sought a nine-year jail term for David Wiggins, aged 43, was found guilty of the sexual assault on May 9, 2023.
However, he reached a plea agreement prior to the trial.
During court proceedings held at the Audiencia Court in Palma, it was mentioned that Wiggins was heavily intoxicated during the incident, which served as a mitigating factor.
Upon completing half of his sentence, Wiggins will be deported from Spain.
Reports indicated that the young woman, believed to be British, told police she had fallen asleep in her friend’s hotel room, which featured an internal door leading into Wiggins father’s room.
It is alleged that he surprised her during the night while her friend was not present.
Prosecutors detailed in their indictment that: “On the early hours of May 9, 2023, the defendant, seeking sexual gratification and exploiting the fact that the victim had consumed substantial alcohol and was sleeping deeply on a sofa bed, approached her and engaged in non-consensual penetration.
As she awoke and shouted for him to stop, he grabbed her arm and intensified his thrusts until he ejaculated inside her.
“The woman later visited a medical facility and was reported to be highly distressed and emotionally affected.
Medical examinations revealed she had three small bruises consistent with being grabbed, along with additional marks on her breast.” The victim, estimated to be around 20 years old, reportedly fled the hotel and reported the incident to police at a Civil Guard station near Punta Ballena, a popular party area in Magaluf.
Local media outlet Ultima Hora stated that officers took her statement before arriving at the hotel, where they found Wigging had already checked out.
Wiggins was intercepted at Palma Airport after attempting to leave the island shortly after the assault by boarding a flight.
He was detained at the gate.
In addition to the four-year prison sentence, he was ordered to pay his victim £6,400 in compensation as part of his plea deal.
