YORK MAN JAILED FOR 18 MONTHS AFTER GLASS ASSAULT ON WOMAN
David Andrew White, a resident of York, was convicted of attacking a woman by striking her in the face with a pint glass. He admitted to causing lacerations but contested the more severe charge of intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm.
The court sentenced him to 18 months in prison, with a requirement to serve nine months before being eligible for release on licence.
A 10-year restraining order was also imposed.
The incident took place in York on November 4, 2022, when White entered a shop covered in blood and claimed that both he and the woman had used a hammer against each other.
Police responded to find the woman with a deep cut on her nose and White with minor injuries on his hands.
The victim explained that White had caused her injury after becoming verbally aggressive, throwing objects, and then hitting her with a shattered pint glass, which resulted in substantial facial damage.
Although White initially denied any involvement, he ultimately admitted to inflicting the injury, stating he was trying to diffuse the situation.
The lead investigator expressed optimism that the court's decision would help the victim recover from her trauma and emphasized the importance of reporting domestic violence to authorities.
