DAVID ROLES FROM BURTON CAUGHT WITH INDECENT IMAGES OF YOUNG GIRLS AT MANCHESTER METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY

In October 2009, a disturbing case emerged involving a former teacher from Burton, identified as David Roles, aged 59, who was found to possess a large collection of indecent images of young girls. The incident came to light after authorities uncovered his activities, revealing a troubling pattern of online behavior.

According to court proceedings held at Manchester Magistrates' Court, Roles had downloaded a total of 337 images from the internet, depicting pre-teen girls in provocative poses. Some of these images featured children as young as five years old, dressed in revealing clothing such as thongs and skimpy underwear. The images' disturbing nature prompted immediate concern and investigation.

The police investigation was initiated after Roles was caught in an unusual manner. He was parked at Manchester Metropolitan University with his car window rolled down, which drew the attention of a security guard. The guard approached the vehicle to investigate the suspicious activity, leading to the discovery of Roles' illicit material. This encounter ultimately resulted in his arrest and subsequent charges.

During the court hearing, it was revealed that Roles attempted to justify his actions by claiming he was conducting 'research.' However, the evidence against him was overwhelming, and the court did not accept his explanation. In sentencing, Roles was ordered to complete 60 hours of unpaid community service and was placed under a supervision order. Additionally, he was mandated to register as a sex offender for a period of five years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and compliance with legal restrictions.
