DAVID MABBS FROM COLWYN BAY JAILED FOR NEARLY 200 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
In August 2010, a man from Colwyn Bay was sentenced to four months in prison after being found in possession of nearly 200 images depicting child abuse on his computer. The individual, identified as David Mabbs, aged 45 and residing at Rhiw Grange, pleaded guilty to 13 separate charges related to the creation and possession of indecent images of children.During the hearing at Llandudno Crown Court, District Judge Andrew Shaw emphasized the seriousness of Mabbs' actions, stating, "This wasn’t an impulsive act that occurred on the spur of the moment but a course of conduct over 14 months when you downloaded a series of images." The judge pointed out that the images in question depicted very young children being subjected to abuse, highlighting the disturbing nature of the material.
Judge Shaw further explained that individuals who view such images contribute to a harmful market that perpetuates the exploitation and abuse of children. He underscored the gravity of the offense by noting, "These were very young children. People who view the images provide a market for the images themselves and the exploitation of children."
As part of his sentence, Mabbs was ordered to register as a sex offender and is now subject to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, which aims to restrict his activities and monitor his behavior moving forward. The defense attorney, Eilian Williams, acknowledged Mabbs' remorse, stating, "He’s greatly ashamed and makes no excuses." The court's decision reflects the serious stance taken against such offenses and the ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable children from exploitation.
