KHOSROW AGHAEI FROM COLWYN BAY AND RHOS ON SEA JAILED FOR SPYING ON PATIENTS IN BATHROOMS

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Colwyn Bay and Rhos on Sea, Khosrow Aghaei, a 59-year-old dentist, has been sentenced to eight months in prison after being found guilty of secretly installing a spy camera in a bathroom at his dental practice. The incident, which took place at Grosvenor Dental Surgery, has raised serious concerns about privacy violations and the abuse of professional trust.

According to court proceedings, Aghaei was caught using a small key fob-style camera hidden within the bathroom of his surgery. The court was told that a staff member discovered the device after noticing a photograph on Aghaei’s computer depicting a naked woman with a baby, which prompted suspicion. The staff member then identified the key fob camera, leading to police involvement.

During police questioning, Aghaei denied that the camera was placed in the toilet with the intent to film individuals using the facilities. However, prosecutors argued that his actions demonstrated a clear sexual interest in voyeurism. The court heard that the camera was positioned in a way that could capture patients and staff members in vulnerable moments, which was deemed a gross invasion of privacy.

In addition to the voyeurism charge, Aghaei admitted to possessing images related to child abuse and possessing extreme pornography, further compounding the severity of his offenses. The court was informed that Aghaei, who trained as a dentist in Sweden, had since sold his practice for only half of its original value, a decision influenced by the fallout from these criminal activities.

Prosecutor Simon Rogers emphasized the gravity of the case, stating that the defendant’s actions were driven by a “depraved interest.” The court was also told that Aghaei’s professional license had been revoked by the General Dental Council, effectively ending his career in dentistry.

Defending Aghaei, Jonathan Austin highlighted the personal toll the allegations and subsequent conviction had taken on the defendant and his family, who reside in the area. Austin described the situation as “excruciatingly embarrassing” for the family and emphasized that the offenses had resulted in “the ruin” of Aghaei’s reputation.

Judge Niclas Parry, presiding over the case at Caernarfon Crown Court, ordered Aghaei to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years. Additionally, a sexual offences prevention order was issued, granting authorities the ability to monitor his future internet activity to prevent further misconduct.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Parry condemned Aghaei’s actions, stating, “Any right-minded person would be disgusted by a gross invasion of privacy. You have a depraved interest.” He acknowledged that the defendant had already suffered significant personal and professional consequences, describing his loss of reputation as “a personal tragedy.” The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which such violations of privacy and trust are regarded within the justice system.
