GRIMSBY PAEDOPHILE DAVID LAY SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR ABDUCTION AND RAPE OF 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Grimsby, a man named David Lay has been sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison after being found guilty of abducting and raping a 14-year-old girl.

The incident took place in the early hours of May 11 last year, when Lay, 40 years old and formerly residing on Rutland Street, was caught preying on a vulnerable young girl who was wandering the streets in her pyjamas.

Lay’s actions were described as those of a “rabid sexual predator” by the presiding judge at Grimsby Crown Court.

The court heard that after abducting the girl from the East Marsh area of Grimsby, Lay subjected her to a brutal four-day ordeal.

During this time, he forcibly administered amphetamines and alcohol, rendering her unconscious and unable to resist.

The girl was later raped at Lay’s home, where he continued to manipulate and threaten her.

To conceal her identity and facilitate his control over her, Lay arranged for her to wear a wig and adopt a false name.

He also threatened her with arrest and removal into care if she disclosed what was happening.

In a further attempt to erase her identity, Lay instructed her to have a tattoo, claiming it would make her unrecognizable.

He also advised her to give a different date of birth if questioned by authorities.

Despite being under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order since 2009, which was imposed after a previous conviction for sex with an underage girl, Lay continued to exploit the girl by providing her with drugs and alcohol.

The girl’s ordeal only ended when she managed to escape by arranging to meet her sister in a park in Cleethorpes.

Her sister immediately recognized her distressed state and took her to her foster parents’ home.

The foster parents, along with her biological parents, had been desperately searching for her for four days since she went missing, and they promptly contacted the police.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Peter Kelson QC addressed the court, emphasizing the girl’s vulnerability.

He stated that she was walking the streets in her pyjamas when Lay found her, and he criticized Lay for not returning her to authorities but instead choosing to take advantage of her sexually.

The judge described Lay’s behavior as that of a “rabid, sexual predator” and condemned the severity of his crimes, which included abduction, rape, and breach of a court order.

Judge Kelson highlighted the danger Lay posed to women and children, especially those under 16, and declared him a “dangerous man.” As a result, Lay was sentenced to 14 years for the rape, with an additional four years added due to the risk he represented.

He received a further four-year sentence for the abduction and a three-year term for breaching the Sexual Harm Prevention Order, with all sentences running concurrently.

A new sexual harm prevention order was also imposed, prohibiting Lay from contacting children under 16.

Prosecutor Andrew Bailey explained that the girl’s parents had moved away from Grimsby, but she chose to stay with friends who became her foster parents.

On May 10, the girl left her foster home with her boyfriend and was walking around the East Marsh area.

She became upset and wandered off alone.

Lay, who was out with another girl at the time, saw her in distress and invited her back to his residence on Rutland Street.

The girl, fearing police involvement, agreed to go with Lay and the other girl.

Bailey detailed how the girl was unaware of the effects of the drugs she was given, which she later estimated to be nine or ten doses of amphetamine.

She described feeling paralyzed and staring into space, recalling Lay stroking her face when alone with her.

She remembered being at the bottom of the stairs, only partially clothed, and being laughed at when she asked about her missing pyjama bottoms.

Lay told her she had fallen down the stairs after drinking alcohol and warned her not to tell anyone she was in Nottingham, threatening that she would be found and taken into care if she tried to leave.

Lay also provided her with a black wig and instructed her to use a false date of birth.

Despite her repeated pleas to see her sister, she was denied this opportunity.

On May 14, she arranged to meet her sister at a park in Cleethorpes, where she appeared ill, scared, and under the influence of drugs.

She was taken to her foster parents’ home and later transported to hospital for medical tests.

Lay was arrested on June 9 and denied knowing the girl during police interviews.

He refused to participate in an identification process, further complicating the case.

This case underscores the ongoing dangers posed by individuals like David Lay, who had a history of sexual offenses and was under legal restrictions designed to prevent further harm.

The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of his crimes and the community’s need for protection from such dangerous offenders.
