JAIL FOR OBSESSIVE CAMBRIDGE STALKER WHO SENT FAECES IN ENVELOPE TO GIRL, 16
David Irving, aged 46, was sentenced to six years in prison for a disturbing stalking campaign targeting a 16-year-old girl, which included sending her what appeared to be feces in an envelope.Police described the incident as bizarre and malicious, noting that the victim and her family suffered considerable psychological distress as a result.
Living on Beaumont Road, Cambridge, Irving also sent anonymous letters, Valentine’s cards, and at one point appeared at the girl’s home dressed in a balaclava, carrying a brick, and carving an offensive message into her fencing.
CCTV footage established that Irving visited the girl’s residence approximately 40 times, leading to his arrest on August 24 when his electronic devices were linked to email and text message evidence.
The harassment began in November 2021 when Irving sent an anonymous letter to her father containing an altered image from her Instagram profile.
He also directed anonymous letters to her headteacher, containing false allegations, and put up notes and posters outside her school.
Irving used false identities and email addresses to make contact, even threatening to call police, claiming he was being harassed.
In May of the following year, the victim received an envelope with what seemed to be feces.
The following month, Irving sent numerous emails under false names to police, making baseless accusations about the girl.
At court, Irving pleaded guilty to three counts of stalking, perverting the course of justice, possessing cannabis, and criminal damage.
He was sentenced to six years and issued an indefinite restraining order.
Detective Constable Matthew Lander commented: “This was a shocking case which has had a profound impact on the victim and her family.
It left them with severe mental anguish and feeling unsafe in their own home so I would like to thank them for their bravery in helping us with a prosecution.
“His behaviour also led to another family undergoing much stress and anxiety.
Irving should be ashamed."
