A man who vowed to rekindle his relationship with his former partner, claiming he would do so “if it’s the last thing I do,” has been sentenced to prison.
Daniel Wilson, aged 38 and residing on Neptune Close in Cambridge, was subject to a non-molestation order and a restraining order issued last year.
Both legal restrictions barred him from making any form of contact with the woman involved.
Despite these legal measures, Wilson visited the victim’s nearby pub around 7:45 pm on December 12.
When she confronted him, Wilson, who was carrying a glass, threatened her, stating, “keep staring at me and I will smash this glass in your face.” On Christmas Day, Wilson sent the woman an email wishing her a happy holiday.
He followed up with another message, saying, “all I wanted for Christmas is you, but I never got it.” Four days later, he emailed again, asking, “tell me you’re fully happy with your life now and I’ll leave you alone.” Subsequently, he sent a message declaring, “I’m getting you back if it’s the last thing I do.” On February 5 this year, Wilson returned to the victim’s local pub and was verbally aggressive towards her partner, warning him “to watch yourself,” before cycling away.
Wilson also sent the woman flowers with a card marked “Love Daniel” on Valentine’s Day.
Later that month, police arrested Wilson at his residence.
During a phone call at Parkside Police Station in Cambridge, he was overheard telling a relative, “tell her to drop this.” On May 7, Wilson appeared before Cambridge Crown Court and was sentenced to one year and four months’ imprisonment after admitting to charges of harassment by breaching a restraining order, violation of the non-molestation order, and common assault.
Prosecutors also ordered a stalking charge involving significant alarm or distress and a charge related to attempting to obstruct justice to remain on file.
Additionally, Wilson received a new restraining order valid for ten years.
