MIDDLESBROUGH MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ASSAULT
David Fergus, aged 39, is the principal offender in this case.He previously known as David Young, has a long history of violent behavior.
The court heard that he punched his partner repeatedly in the face in November last year after she refused to give him more money.
While she was waiting to receive treatment at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, Fergus arrived at the window and demanded that she come outside.
He then demanded additional cash, took her phone to transfer funds to his account, and threatened her safety.
Fergus's violent tendencies extended over a span of several years; eleven months prior, he punched her repeatedly in the arm when she refused to give him money, and he became increasingly aggressive and paranoid over the last four years of their relationship.
His former partner described him as 'paranoid and aggressive' after he adopted drug abuse.
She recounted how he would come into her room late at night asking for money and even asked her relatives for cash at her mother’s funeral.
Days before Christmas, Fergus held her down on the bed with his hand over her mouth and threatened, 'I will kill you and I know where your family live.' The police intervened after she called them following an altercation where Fergus threw objects and slashed the sofa with a knife, claiming, 'I smashed the house up because I wanted to.

Because I can.' He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, grievous bodily harm, making a threat to kill, coercive control, and criminal damage.
Fergus has a prior conviction from 2023 for assaulting another woman and multiple convictions for robbery and possessing a firearm when prohibited.
The court sentenced Fergus to 51 months in jail, and he is currently held on remand awaiting sentencing.
