WAKEFIELD NURSE DAVID FALKINER SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST TEENAGE GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the Wakefield community, David Falkiner, a 47-year-old male nurse, was sentenced to four years in prison at Leeds Crown Court for a series of serious sexual offences committed against two vulnerable teenage girls he befriended through a local dance group.Judge Scott Wolstenholme delivered the sentence after detailing the disturbing nature of Falkiner's actions.
The judge explained that Falkiner had deliberately targeted the two girls over a period of several years, choosing them because they were isolated and vulnerable for different reasons.
According to the judge, Falkiner then proceeded to seduce them, exploiting their circumstances for his own gratification.
It was revealed during the court proceedings that Falkiner was an intelligent man, a qualified nurse who had recently completed a master's degree.
Despite his educational achievements, his behaviour was described as highly inappropriate and predatory.
The judge emphasized that Falkiner was aware of the risks involved, especially after the parents of one of the girls discovered the relationship and contacted the police.
Despite this, Falkiner allowed the relationship to continue for several months, even after the girl reconnected with him.
Throughout this period, Falkiner maintained ongoing sexual activity with the other girl, showing a clear pattern of misconduct.
The court was told that Falkiner's actions demonstrated a troubling inability or unwillingness to control his urges, which led to the exploitation of underage girls.
Falkiner, of Wharncliffe Road in Wakefield, pleaded guilty to seven counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of possessing an indecent photo.
Prosecutor Jeremy Hill-Baker highlighted that one of the girls recounted how Falkiner told her he loved her and claimed to be “there for her” during her times of trouble, further illustrating the manipulative nature of his conduct.
As the case concluded, Falkiner was taken into custody to serve his sentence, leaving the Wakefield community to grapple with the unsettling details of his crimes and the breach of trust involved.
