PAISLEY SEX OFFENDER CONVICTED OF DECADES-LONG CHILD ABUSE
A Paisley-based offender, David Cardona, has been found guilty of multiple child sex abuse offenses spanning over two decades.He was convicted at Paisley Sheriff Court after a jury unanimously found him guilty of abusing three young victims.
The court heard that Cardona, aged 65, used lewd and indecent practices towards a boy under 13 in October 1994, when he entered the boy's bed while he was sleeping, attempted to pull his trousers down, and performed a sex act on him.
Additionally, he was convicted of sexually assaulting a girl under 16 on various occasions from July 2013 to August 2018 by touching her private parts through her clothing while she was sleeping or falling asleep.
An emotional testimony revealed how these assaults affected the victim, causing her to become distressed and self-harming.
Further, he was found guilty of sexually assaulting another girl under 13 between August 2019 and August 2021 by placing his hand inside her trousers and sexually abusing her on multiple occasions.
Evidence suggested that the assaults impacted the victims significantly, with one girl showing signs of trauma such as crying, hair loss, and self-harm.
Sheriff Gillian Craig revoked his bail and remanded him in custody for sentencing, which will occur next month.
Meanwhile, he is on the sex offenders’ register.
The court was visibly moved during the trial, with victims and their families expressing their distress.
Cardona's sentencing has been deferred pending background reports.
David Cardona was unanimously found guilty by a jury and was sentenced to five years in prison and upon release will be subject to three years on license, a 20 year non-harassment order and also a 20 year sexual harm prevention order
