BURNLEY MAN CONVICTED OF SEX ASSAULT ON 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A man named David Byrom, aged 30, was convicted of five charges related to sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl.The incidents took place between July and September 2004.
Byrom was found guilty after a four-day trial at Burnley's crown court.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that he had tried to have sex with the victim, left her in tears, and groped her bottom, with his hand down her trousers.
Prosecutor Jeremy Grout-Smith described the house where the incidents occurred as a "paradise for a pervert," due to the presence of young girls living there and frequently visiting.
Byrom denied the charges, claiming that the prosecution witnesses had conspired against him and that their testimonies were fabricated.
The court was told psychiatric reports had been prepared, and Byrom was remanded on bail until May 25 for pre-sentence reports.
Judge Jonathan Woolman warned him that all sentencing options, including custody, were available.
The judge also instructed Byrom to live at his home address, avoid contact with witnesses, and not reside in any house where females under 16 were present.
