DAVID BENNETT CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN PAISLEY'S FERGUSLIE PARK
In May 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving David Bennett, a 57-year-old man whose actions have shocked the local community of Ferguslie Park in Paisley.Bennett was apprehended after police executed a search warrant at his family residence, uncovering a disturbing collection of illicit material on his computer.
According to reports presented at Paisley Sheriff Court, law enforcement officers arrived at the property on August 12 of the previous year, armed with intelligence indicating Bennett’s illegal possession of indecent images.
The officers identified themselves and presented the warrant to the occupants of the house.
During the initial encounter, a female resident reportedly remarked, “You have been here before and you are not going to find anything,” seemingly dismissing the officers’ suspicions.
Despite this, a thorough and systematic search was conducted, resulting in the seizure of a black tower PC unit.
Cybercrime specialists later examined the device and confirmed the presence of illegal images.
The investigation revealed that Bennett had stored a total of 25 video clips depicting the sexual abuse of young girls, with victims estimated to be between ten and thirteen years old.
Further details from the court proceedings indicated that among the images found, 11 were classified as Category A, representing the most severe level of abuse, while the remaining 14 fell into Category B.
The police returned to Bennett’s address on August 15 after receiving a cybercrime report, and during this second visit, Bennett reportedly expressed remorse, stating, “Sorry, I feel ashamed,” and acknowledging his awareness of the police presence by saying, “I know why you are here.
It is my computer.” Following his arrest, Bennett was taken to Greenock Police Station, where he again admitted ownership of the computer and expressed confusion about his actions, stating, “I don’t know why I did it.” He appeared before Sheriff Colin Pettigrew, where he pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children between April 7 and August 12 of the previous year.
The court heard that the images included short video clips depicting the sexual abuse of young girls aged between ten and thirteen.
The severity of the material was underscored by the classification of the images, with the most serious being Category A.
Sheriff Pettigrew emphasized the importance of further legal proceedings, stating, “It is important to adjourn until the court has all competent disposals available.” As part of his sentencing, Bennett was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register and released on bail under strict conditions designed to protect children and restrict his internet usage.
The final decision regarding his punishment will be made when he appears in court for sentencing scheduled for June 25.
