HALIFAX MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL RAPE AND VIOLENCE
A Halifax man named David Bell has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for serious sexual offences.Bell, aged 28, was convicted of raping a woman, breaking her arm, and assaulting her by punching and kicking during the attack at her home in Halifax last December.
After the assault, which also involved violence including wounding her with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm and false imprisonment, Bell forced the victim to shower in an attempt to remove DNA evidence, as he was aware of the crime's detection risks.
The attack caused severe injuries, including a broken arm and a punctured lung, requiring nearly two weeks of hospital treatment.
The judge, Peter Benson, described Bell as an extremely dangerous individual who showed no remorse and had a history of previous convictions for offences such as aggravated house burglary, wounding, and robbery.
Bell was also found guilty of wounding with intent and false imprisonment following a trial at Bradford Crown Court.
The judge emphasized that Bell had targeted his victim and inflicted humiliation through various actions, including forcing her to shower.
Bell had been recently released on licence from a 32-week jail term at the time of the attack and had been involved in criminal behavior since he was 11 years old.
The court highlighted the risk he presents for future serious offenses of violence and sexual violence.
Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Gary Stephenson expressed satisfaction with the substantial sentence and commended the victim's bravery, emphasizing the importance of reporting such crimes to trained officers.
