2010: DRUNK MAN JAILED FOR ATTACK ON GIRLFRIEND
A man who caused injury to his girlfriend by smashing a cup over her head has received a six-month prison sentence.Darren Richardson, a 37-year-old who struggles with alcoholism, hurled the cup at Josephine Larkin following a disagreement at her residence in Bolton.
During a hearing at Bolton Crown Court, it was detailed that the assault resulted in Miss Larkin sustaining a one-inch cut on her forehead.
The incident occurred on the evening of August 2, when Richardson’s mood soured after another male friend of Miss Larkin’s arrived at the door.
Prosecutor Peter Cave explained that: “His attitude deteriorated, and he began to behave confrontationally.” While seated, Miss Larkin suddenly felt a sharp blow to the right side of her head, saw blood streaming down her face, and noticed a broken cup on the floor nearby.
She then called emergency services.
Police officers located Richardson, who was heavily intoxicated, lying in her garden.
He admitted he was unsure how he had ended up in such a state but accepted that he must have thrown the cup.
Judge Neville Biddle, who sentenced Richardson after he pleaded guilty to assault, remarked, “It appears that nothing the court does will deter you from drinking.
Therefore, I am going to send you to prison.
You have the chance to think during the Christmas and New Year period about your behaviour upon your release.”
