MAN WARNED WOMAN SHE WAS 'GOING TO DIE' IN STRING OF CHILLING EMAILS
A dad wrote to his ex-partner to warn her, "you are going to die", and threatened to throw acid in her face in a flurry of violent and threatening emails.
Darrell Rudyj, 26, of Lathkill Close, Bulwell, was angry over missing an event concerning a child, despite his former girlfriend's efforts to contact him.
He threatened to batter her in front of her children and "whoever else", and "you are going to die...I'm going to batter you" and her new partner, "who will not be able to look at you".
He warned her to, "be careful, you might just get acid in your face".
She left her home temporarily because she had not felt safe.
In interview, Rudyj stated he did not intend her to fear for her life or even ever hurt her.
He pleaded guilty to causing a person to fear violence would be used against them by his conduct, which Judge Stuart Rafferty QC, who sentenced him at Nottingham Crown Court, described as "absolutely unacceptable and unforgivable".
He had previously been before the court for battery on the same woman and an offence of criminal damage, where he had broken something belonging to her.
The judge said the messages Rudyj sent to her in this offence, almost a day's worth, "can only be described as diatribe".
Rudyj received 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, a community order, and 31-days of an accredited programme.
