BULWELL MAN CONVICTED FOR TASERING HIS EX-PARTNER DURING CANNABIS DISPUTE
A woman was Tasered by her jealous ex-partner, Peter Cooke, when he was growing cannabis at her home.Cooke began cultivating a small crop inside her residence and told her she would have to look after it, with instructions written in a notebook, which she agreed to.
However, he later accused an imaginary male called "Mark" of tampering with the lighting for her cannabis plants.
Cooke then pushed his former partner to the floor and pinned her down.
Prosecutor Matt Hayes described how Cooke drew a Taser from his jacket, held the weapon to her face, and placed his hand over her mouth to prevent her from screaming.
Cooke then tasered her to the left side of her back, but she responded by biting his finger and kicking him in the groin.
The woman sustained significant bruising to her right arm and shoulder, with red marks visible from the Taser injuries.
According to Mr.
Hayes, "She went back downstairs, leaving him upstairs tending to her cannabis grow and came down acting perfectly normally as if nothing had happened." After leaving her address, Cooke was arrested.
He pleaded guilty to possessing Diazepam, inflicting grievous bodily harm (a Class C drug), producing cannabis at his own and his ex-girlfriend's residence, assault and causing bodily harm, as well as possessing a prohibited weapon, a stun gun.
Cooke, 55, of Thames Street, was reported to have since suffered respiratory failure and was close to death, remaining in respiratory difficulty.
Judge Stuart Rafferty KC sentenced him to 18 months in custody, suspended for two years, along with a five-year restraining order to stay away from his ex-partner.
