SON PLEADS GUILTY AFTER STABBING FATHER DURING DRUG-INDUCED PSYCHOSIS IN BULWELL
A son was suffering from a drug-induced psychosis at the time he wounded his father.Margat Jagne, aged 19, admitted his involvement in the incident which prompted a significant police response in Longford Crescent, Bulwell, at 5.25pm on Wednesday, May 10, after reports of a stabbing.
Appearing before Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, September 21, Jagne pleaded guilty to wounding and not guilty to wounding with intent and attempted murder.
He also admitted assaulting a policewoman on that day.
He denied a further allegation of sexual assault.
The pleas were accepted by the prosecution, and sentencing is scheduled for Friday, November 10, at 2pm.
The judge, Stuart Rafferty KC, stated that psychiatrists had concluded Jagne was suffering from "drug-induced psychosis by reason of which he would be unable to form the intent to kill or cause grievous bodily harm".
The prosecution accepted this.
The father, the victim, was fully aware of the plea agreement and did not support the prosecution.
The judge indicated that Jagne might face custody, as the court would consider all options including the possibility of a custodial sentence.
Jagne will receive credit for his guilty pleas and must cooperate with the pre-sentence report, with psychiatric reports to be considered by probation.
The incident involved a heavy police response following reports of a stabbing incident; Jagne's actions occurred while he was suffering from a psychosis caused by drug use.
