DANIEL YOUD FROM ELLESMERE PORT JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND ONLINE SEX OFFENCES
In August 2022, a disturbing case unfolded involving Daniel Youd, a resident of Rhuddlan Court in Ellesmere Port, who was found guilty of engaging in heinous online activities related to child exploitation. The incident began when Youd attempted to communicate with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl named Skye through online messaging platforms.
Unbeknownst to him, the girl was actually an undercover police officer conducting an operation to catch individuals involved in child abuse.
According to court proceedings, the conversation started in March 2021, during which Youd asked Skye if she had performed a particular sex act.
When she responded that she was only 13, Youd persisted, asking whether she was a virgin and requesting a photograph.
The officer responded with a fake image, while Youd sent a photo of himself, fully clothed from the waist up.
During the exchange, Youd expressed a desire to see her in her onesie and, when the conversation was about to end, he sent a kiss emoji.
Throughout this interaction, Youd made it clear that he was interested in engaging in sexual activities with minors.
Further investigations revealed that Youd had a troubling history.
In 2011, he received a police caution for possession of an indecent image of a child and was placed on the sex offenders register for two years.
Despite this, he resumed acquiring indecent images, with a significant escalation noted in 2014.
When police executed a search warrant at his home, they discovered hundreds of indecent images and videos depicting children as young as five years old on his laptop and other electronic devices.
The authorities seized multiple devices, which contained a total of 458 indecent images and videos.
Of these, 18 were classified as 'category A,' representing the most severe level of indecency, with 16 videos involving children as young as five.
Additionally, there were 11 'category B' images, including seven videos, and 429 'category C' images, with nine videos.
During police interviews, Youd admitted that approximately 70% of his online chats involved children.
He also confessed to engaging in sexual acts with himself while chatting with minors online.
Despite seeking support from Stop It Now, he found it difficult to cease his harmful online behavior.
Youd's actions prompted a serious legal response.
The court heard that he had no previous convictions beyond the 2011 caution, but his recent offenses were deemed extremely serious.
A pre-sentence report revealed that his partner had since ended their relationship, adding to the personal toll of his actions.
Judge Steven Everett, the Honorary Recorder of Chester, described the images and videos found as 'truly disgusting, truly terrible.' He emphasized that although the offenses were non-contact, the children depicted were victims who had been exploited by adult offenders.
The judge highlighted the disturbing reality that these children could be considered 'disposable commodities,' with their suffering often unrecorded and their fates unknown.
In sentencing, Youd was given a prison term of 16 months.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register for ten years and subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years, restricting his internet use and monitoring his online activities.
Furthermore, a deprivation order was issued for the electronic devices containing the indecent images, ensuring they would be confiscated and destroyed.
The case served as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by online predators and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts to protect vulnerable children from exploitation.
