MIDDLESBROUGH MAN JAILED FOR STRANGULATION AND THREATS OF VIOLENCE
Daniel Soulsby, aged 31 from Middlesbrough, was involved in a prolonged campaign of violent abuse against a woman over several months.The victim reported that he first assaulted her on February 2, by slapping her on the head and grabbing her by the throat, squeezing tightly.
His behaviour escalated over the following four months, during which he continued to assault her through punching, kicking, and throat grabbing, which caused injuries such as bruising and swelling.
Soulsby also made terrifying threats, including saying he would attack her with weapons like knives and glass bottles.
On one particularly threatening occasion, he even threatened to bite off her finger.
An investigation by Cleveland Police’s Domestic Abuse Unit led to his arrest and subsequent charges.
Soulsby admitted to engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of intentional strangulation, and one charge of criminal damage.
He was sentenced to three years in prison at Teesside Crown Court on August 6.
Detective Constable Michaela Sanderson commented on the case, stating, “Soulsby carried out a horrific campaign of abuse over several months causing multiple injuries and leaving the victim fearing for her life.
I hope today’s sentencing brings some sort of closure for her.”
