DANIEL MULVEY SCANDAL IN GLASGOW: GOLF CADDIE SENT FILTHY TEXTS TO 14-YEAR-OLD SCHOOLGIRL
A professional golf caddie from Glasgow, Daniel Mulvey, aged 35, has become the center of a disturbing scandal involving inappropriate communications with a teenage girl. The incident came to light after the girl, who was only 14 years old, was targeted by Mulvey through social media following the TRNSMT music festival in July 2023. Mulvey, who is known for his involvement in high-profile golf tournaments such as The Open and other major international events, engaged in a series of explicit exchanges with the young girl, sending her hardcore images via Snapchat and escalating the crude content as their communication progressed.Despite claiming to be 24 years old on Snapchat, Mulvey falsely told the girl that he was 33, a revelation that horrified her and added to the distress caused by his actions. His lifestyle, which he often showcased on social media, included interactions with celebrities like Donald Trump, Gary Player, and Padraig Harrington, further emphasizing his status as a successful golf caddie. His social media presence featured photos with prominent figures, highlighting his career at prestigious events, which made the allegations even more shocking.
The victim’s family became suspicious after noticing troubling messages on her phone. Concerned about her safety and well-being, they conducted their own investigation, recording Mulvey’s inappropriate messages and gathering evidence to present to the police. A relative expressed their outrage, stating, “We were disgusted at what we were seeing and even more so when we saw how old the guy was. He is just a vile predator and people need to be warned about him.”
In April, Mulvey appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to charges of sending sexual messages and making references to sexual activity with the girl between July 8 and 9, 2023. The court heard that his actions violated the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009, as the messages were sent intentionally with the purpose of sexual gratification, humiliation, or causing distress. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior, including explicit texts, videos, and attempts to groom the young girl by asking if she could be trusted and engaging in inappropriate conversations despite knowing her age.
The case also shed light on the lack of vetting procedures for golf caddies working at major events in Scotland, which allowed individuals like Mulvey to operate in such prestigious environments without thorough background checks. The victim’s family emphasized that Mulvey’s conduct was that of a predator, and they expressed concern that he may have targeted others as well. As the legal process continues, Mulvey faces potential sentencing, which could include imprisonment, being placed on the Sex Offenders Register, and the end of his career as a professional golf caddie.
