DANIEL MORRIS ATTACKS NEW PARTNER IN ATHERTON - SUSPENDED SENTENCE HANDED DOWN

A man identified as Daniel Morris has been sentenced after an assault incident involving his ex-girlfriend's new partner in Atherton.

The incident occurred on the evening of April 9, when Morris, aged 24 and residing on Elliott Street, Tyldesley, confronted the man outside a store on Derby Street in Atherton.

According to court reports, Morris launched a violent attack, punching the victim, kneeing him in the face, and kicking his head approximately five times during the assault.

The victim sustained injuries including a broken finger and expressed fears for his personal safety following the attack.

The court was informed that Morris's history includes previous convictions for common assault, and that he had been involved in a tumultuous and abusive relationship with his ex-partner, who had since moved on with a new partner.

The police's domestic violence unit had been called to intervene on 20 separate occasions concerning Morris's conduct.

During the hearing at Liverpool Crown Court, it was revealed that Morris had pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.

The court heard that the incident was linked to ongoing tensions following the breakup of his six-year relationship, which produced two children.

His ex-partner was now seeing someone new, which appeared to have triggered the violent outburst.

Sarah Phelan, representing Morris, stated that her client had already faced significant consequences for his actions, including being unable to see his two children and his ex-girlfriend’s older child since the incident.

She expressed that Morris deeply regrets his behavior and the potential impact it could have on his children’s future.

Judge Stephen Clarke delivered the sentence, which included nine months of imprisonment, suspended for two years.

Additionally, Morris was ordered to undergo 15 months of supervision and attend an integrated domestic violence programme.

The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of the assault and the ongoing issues related to domestic violence in the community of Atherton.
