MAN JAILED FOR ABUSIVE ATTACK ON PARTNER
A man who murdered his partner by strangulation and threatened her with the words “today is the day you are going to die” has been jailed.Daniel Howard subjected his girlfriend to a violent assault, prompting her to flee their residence in fear and preventing her from returning home.
He received a prison term of four years and four months after admitting to charges including intentional strangulation, two counts of threats to kill, assault by beating, and criminal damage.
The victim later informed law enforcement officers that Howard’s abusive behavior had been worsening over several years.
The incident that resulted in his imprisonment began on April 20, when Howard started verbally abusing her and made threats to "slit the throats of everyone in the household while they slept." The next morning, he physically attacked her, grabbing her by the throat and constricting her airflow while threatening her life, stating: "Today is the day you are going to die." She attempted to escape, but Howard pulled her by the hair from behind and punched her repeatedly in the face, head, and stomach.
During the assault, he also damaged a laptop and a TV remote.
The woman managed to run to a nearby park and called emergency services, expressing her fear of returning home.
After his arrest, Howard admitted to police: “I lost my temper, I’m going to admit to everything.
I put my hands on her.” Howard, who resides in Murrow, Wisbech, was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on July 21.
