DANIEL FAIRWEARER'S VIOLENT OUTBURST IN DUNDEE LEAVES WOMAN AND GUEST INJURED

A disturbing incident unfolded in Dundee involving Daniel Fairweather, a 30-year-old man whose actions have shocked the local community. Fairweather unlawfully entered the residence of his former partner without her knowledge and launched a brutal assault on both her and a guest present at the time. The attack resulted in visible facial injuries for the victims, highlighting the severity of his violence.

During court proceedings at Dundee Sheriff Court, Fairweather admitted to a pattern of abusive behavior directed at the woman spanning over two years, from October 2021 through December 2023. His abusive conduct included making derogatory remarks about her mental health, repeatedly grabbing her throat in a threatening manner, and confiscating her mobile phone, thereby controlling her communication. When she reported having sustained a black eye, Fairweather dismissively responded, “Well, you deserved it,” demonstrating a lack of remorse and a dismissive attitude towards her suffering.

The prosecution, led by prosecutor Michael Robertson, explained that Fairweather wrongly believed the woman was involved with someone else. It was also asserted that their relationship had officially ended by December 1, 2023. The following early hours of December 2 saw a violent escalation. The woman returned home with a male friend, and while they were outside for a cigarette, Fairweather suddenly appeared inside the house. Without warning, he began punching the male friend repeatedly, causing him to fall to the ground. Turning his aggression towards the woman, Fairweather struck her repeatedly on the head until she collapsed. During this assault, he allegedly taunted her with the words, “wrong place, wrong time, isn’t it?” before fleeing the scene.

Following his escape, Fairweather was quickly apprehended by police. During questioning, he admitted to his actions, expressing remorse but also offering a justification, stating, “I know what I have done. I f***ed up. I had gone through a bad break-up recently and I think folk are seeking retribution.” His legal representative, Jane Caird, acknowledged the seriousness of his behavior but also noted that Fairweather was willing to seek help through trauma counseling with a mental health nurse, indicating some recognition of the need for intervention.

In sentencing, Sheriff John Rafferty emphasized the importance of rehabilitation and supervision. Fairweather was ordered to undergo an 18-month supervision order and was placed under a restriction of liberty order from 7 pm to 5 am for a period of 108 days. Notably, the court did not issue a non-harassment order at the victim’s request, suggesting a focus on addressing the offender’s behavior through supervision rather than further restrictions. The case underscores the ongoing issues of domestic abuse and violence in Dundee, and the court’s decision reflects an attempt to balance accountability with opportunities for rehabilitation.
