YUSUF SIMPSON'S DOMESTIC ABUSE IN DUNDEE AND KIRRIEMUIR SHOCKS COMMUNITY

Yusuf Simpson, a 26-year-old resident of Dundee, found himself in court after a disturbing incident that unfolded in Kirriemuir. The incident began on the night of November 25, 2022, when Simpson stayed overnight at his partner’s home. The following morning, he awoke feeling unwell while resting on an airbed in the living room. His partner, attempting to care for him, prepared a cup of coffee. However, what started as a minor disagreement over the amount of milk in the coffee quickly escalated into a serious domestic disturbance.

According to court reports, Simpson became increasingly agitated and began to nit-pick over trivial details, which led to him calling his partner derogatory names such as “dirty little tart.” His partner, distressed by his behavior, asked him to leave the house. Simpson, however, refused to comply, and the situation rapidly deteriorated into a loud and violent argument. The altercation intensified to the point where both parties engaged in physical struggle, prompting the woman to call emergency services by dialing 999.

During the confrontation, Simpson followed his partner outside, apologizing for his behavior. Despite this, when she attempted to return indoors and lock him out, he physically prevented her by sticking his foot in the door. In a moment of desperation, the woman threw her phone at Simpson and fled the scene barefoot, rushing to her car to escape the violence. She managed to lock him out of her vehicle, and despite his attempts to gain entry, she drove away to seek refuge at a friend’s house.

Judge Krista Johnston, presiding over the case at Forfar Sheriff Court, acknowledged Simpson’s criminal record, describing it as “short but significant.” She sentenced him to a two-year period of supervision and mandated his participation in the Caledonian Men’s programme, which is designed for domestic offenders. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of the incident and the need for rehabilitation.

It was also revealed that Simpson has ongoing legal issues, as he is scheduled to appear in court next year for further allegations of physical and mental abuse directed at the mother of his child. This pattern of violence and abuse underscores a troubling history that continues to impact those involved and the wider community in Dundee and Kirriemuir.
