POLICE OFFICER ESCAPES JAIL FOR DOMESTIC INCIDENT BUT FACES JOB LOSS
Police Constable Craig Wallace, aged 35, has been involved in an incident where he acted aggressively towards his ex-partner, with whom he had a 16-year relationship, which ended in November.Despite the breakup, the couple continued to live together for financial reasons and to support their children.
On February 1, Wallace, who was evidently distressed by the split, entered his ex-partner's bedroom after overhearing her talking on the phone with her new partner.
According to court reports, he barged into the room, whispering angrily that he was 'f****** sick of hearing her laughing and joking in the bedroom.' He then attempted to snatch her mobile phone and pulled the blanket off her, indicating his frustration.
The incident was detailed during Wallace's court hearing at Peterhead Sheriff Court, where he admitted to acting aggressively.
His defense solicitor, Paul Barnett, acknowledged that Wallace had overstepped the line but emphasized his 13 years of exemplary service and the personal difficulties he faced.
The court was told that Wallace has been suspended since February 24 and faces disciplinary action that could potentially end his career, though the sheriff decided to give him an absolute discharge, citing his good service record and the particular circumstances.
The sheriff remarked, 'This decision is based on the fact that the consequences of a conviction would outweigh the offense.' Despite walking free without punishment, Wallace's actions are considered to go against the values of Police Scotland, and the matter will be referred to the department's conduct department for further investigation.
