MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OF SLEEPING CHILD AT LANCASHIRE HOTEL
Craig Walker, a 31-year-old man from May Street, Golborne, Warrington, was involved in a serious sexual offence at a Lancashire hotel.
In September, he was observed acting suspiciously near a sleeping child at the Lancashire Manor Hotel in Skelmersdale.
The child's mother noticed Walker and asked him to move away.
CCTV footage showed Walker stroking the child's legs, covering the child with his jacket, and then reaching underneath it.
Despite initially denying the incident, Walker ultimately pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 and was sentenced to three years in prison.
Additionally, he was subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Ruby Mckeague, a Senior Crown Prosecutor, stated that Walker abused the young child for his own gratification, demonstrating a total disregard for the child's distress.
She commented that Walker's denial was overcome by overwhelming evidence, including CCTV footage, leading to his guilty plea.
The case highlighted the vital roles played by the CPS and police in securing justice in cases of serious sexual offences.
