CAERPHILLY MAN CRAIG SCARFE SENTENCED FOR SHOCKING YSTRAD MYNACH HOSPITAL SEXUAL ASSAULT
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Craig Scarfe, a 36-year-old resident of Nantgarw Road, Caerphilly, was sentenced for a sexual assault that occurred at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr in Ystrad Mynach.The incident took place during the Christmas period of 2019, and the court heard harrowing details of the attack that left the victim deeply traumatized.
Prosecutor Nuhu Gobir described the assault during proceedings at Cardiff Crown Court, emphasizing the defendant’s disturbing behavior.
According to Gobir, Scarfe was observed laughing and grinning throughout the assault, clearly deriving some form of malicious enjoyment from his actions.
The court was told that the victim was left in a state of shock and distress, suffering from flashbacks and feelings of worthlessness as a result of the attack.
The prosecutor highlighted the violation of the victim’s dignity and privacy, condemning Scarfe’s conduct as a serious breach of trust and personal safety.
Scarfe, who pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual assault, had already served the equivalent of eight months in custody prior to sentencing.
The court acknowledged this time served but emphasized the severity of the crime.
The judge condemned Scarfe for his physical strength and the fact that he disregarded the victim’s wishes during the assault.
In sentencing, Scarfe was given a six-month jail term, which was suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to undertake a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement and complete 29 sessions of an accredited behavioral program aimed at addressing his conduct.
The court also mandated that Scarfe register as a sex offender for a period of seven years, reflecting the seriousness of his actions and the ongoing risk to the community.
It was also noted that Scarfe has a prior conviction from 2008 for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, from which he avoided prison at that time.
The recent sentencing underscores the ongoing concerns about his behavior and the importance of community safety and justice for victims of sexual violence.
