FIFE MAN JAILED FOR RAPING VULNERABLE TEEN IN DERELICT ASYLUM
Craig Osborne, a 20-year-old former landscape gardener from Fife, was sentenced to three years in prison for the rape of a vulnerable teenager.
The incident occurred at Ravenscraig Hospital in Greenock on August 18, 2018.
The court was told that Osborne's encounter with the victim initially appeared to be consensual, but he continued the sexual activity even after she explicitly said "stop." At the time, Osborne was only 17 years old.
The victim, described as vulnerable, met Osborne along with other young people in the abandoned Victorian hospital building, which was a rather strange environment for such an encounter.
Osborne denied the charge of rape, but a jury at the High Court in Glasgow found him guilty in September.
The judge, Lord Sandison, addressed the incident, emphasizing the seriousness of rape, and noted that a social work report indicated Osborne posed a "serious risk" of harm to others if released.
Osborne, who is a father of one, also has a prior conviction for breach of the peace and dangerous driving, for which he was jailed for two years in June after a dangerous incident involving a police chase.
The court's decision highlights the gravity of the offense and the ongoing concerns about his behavior while at liberty.
