CRAIG BLACK FROM SALTCOATS SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND UNDERAGE SEX IN AYRSHIRE AND GLASGOW

In a case that has shocked the community of Saltcoats and the wider Ayrshire region, Craig Black, a 17-year-old local resident, has been handed a significant prison sentence after admitting to serious criminal offenses involving underage girls. The High Court in Glasgow heard harrowing details of Black's actions, which included the assault of an 11-year-old girl and subsequent unlawful sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl, all occurring within the confines of his hometown.

The court was informed that the first incident took place at Black's family residence on New England Road in Saltcoats. On the evening of March 31st of the previous year, the young girl, who was only 11 years old, was watching a film in a bedroom when she fell asleep. She later woke up to find Black, who was intoxicated at the time, on top of her. The girl confided in her mother about the assault, which led to Black being charged with rape. Despite the gravity of the accusation, he was released on bail after a sheriff's decision.

Following his release, Black's actions did not cease. In June of the same year, he formed a friendship with a 13-year-old girl. However, this relationship drew police attention after rumors circulated at her school suggesting that she had engaged in sexual activity with Black. These rumors prompted an investigation, culminating in Black's arrest and charges related to unlawful sexual conduct with an underage girl.

The court heard that Black expressed feelings of shame and remorse for his actions, acknowledging his misconduct. Lord Brailsford, presiding over the case, acknowledged that Black was intoxicated during the rape but emphasized that this was no justification for his behavior.
