WAKEFIELD MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFIC ATTACK ON VULNERABLE WOMAN
A man who severely assaulted a vulnerable young woman has been found guilty and sentenced to prison.
Craig Barker, aged 41, attacked his victim in Wakefield on the 17th of February, 2023, leading to serious injuries including a fractured eye socket and cheekbone.
The injuries were severe enough for her to require hospital treatment, which involved the surgical placement of a plate and screws in her face.
Barker was convicted of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, non-fatal strangulation, and violating a restraining order.
He was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court to eight years in prison, with an extra two years on license.
Detective Constable Mandy Geary commented, “This was a particularly horrific attack against a vulnerable young woman.” She added that acts of violence like this are unacceptable and stressed the importance of the public reporting incidents of violence, sexual violence, coercive behavior, or harassment to authorities.
The sentencing highlights the gravity of Barker’s actions and the crucial role of notifying law enforcement about such incidents.
