A man aged 20 has evaded immediate imprisonment despite amassing an extensive collection of child sexual abuse images and sharing them via a messaging application.
Connor Johnson, of Stephenson Walk in Winsford, appeared at Chester Crown Court on June 6 for sentencing on seven counts related to indecent images.
It was established during the hearing that Johnson had accumulated over 1,000 images, classified as categories A, B, and C, spanning from February 2022 to March 2024.
His collection also included 17 disturbing pornographic images involving animals.
The court heard that between August 2023 and January 2024, Johnson shared many of these child abuse images through a Telegram web chat.
He was charged with producing, possessing, and distributing indecent images of children, to which he admitted guilt on April 14.
At this month’s sentencing, Recorder Alexandra Simmonds handed Johnson an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.
He was ordered to complete the Building Choices programme and undertake up to 20 days of rehabilitative work.
The judge also required Johnson to register as a sex offender until 2035 and to adhere to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, which prevents him from using any internet-compatible device unless he reports its use within three days.
Additionally, he must keep logs of his online activity on these devices.
The court also directed that Johnson’s mobile phone be confiscated as part of this order.
