CHESTER-LE-STREET MAN SENTENCED FOR VICIOUS DOMESTIC ASSAULT
A man named Connor Barrett was involved in a violent incident against his ex-partner, which was heard in Durham Crown Court. The court was told that Barrett throttled his former partner to the point of unconsciousness, kicked her in the back and legs, and then locked her in her own home.
The woman, who was trying to end a four-year abusive relationship, had to escape her house by climbing out of a window after she regained consciousness.
She ran to a nearby store and called her parents.
Barrett followed her to the store and threw the broken key to her front door at her, saying, “Good luck getting back in.” Her parents found her with injuries, and she was taken to hospital suffering pain and tenderness in her head, neck, and groin, where she had been kicked.
She described Barrett’s behavior as “unpredictable” and expressed fear that he would kill her or someone else.
The incident took place on March 10, when Barrett visited her to collect his work bag.
An argument ensued, during which Barrett poured a drink over her while she used milk, and he repeatedly kicked her and attempted to strangle her, rendering her unconscious.
He also used racial abuse at a police station later.
Barrett has a record of domestic offenses dating back to 2012.
He admitted to assault causing actual bodily harm, criminal damage, and racially aggravated harassment.
He was sentenced to 28 months in prison and is subject to a lifetime restraining order prohibiting him from contacting his former partner.
