SWINDON SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE IN COUNTY DURHAM
A sex offender named David Jenkins, aged 31 and formerly residing in Lumley Terrace, Chester-le-Street, was sentenced for attempting to rape a woman.
Jenkins' assault occurred in County Durham on May 29 last year, when he approached the woman at her home after making an unwelcome visit.
During the attack, Jenkins forcibly pinned her to the floor, removed her pyjamas, and attempted to rape her, despite her attempts to defend herself by biting his face.
Her nine-year-old son was present during the assault, witnessing his mother scream and struggle while Jenkins punched her.
The victim managed to hug her son and wait until the police arrived.
Jenkins had previously been imprisoned in 2001 for gross indecency with a child and was ordered to remain on the sex offenders' register for life and banned from working with children.
He was jailed indefinitely by Judge George Moorhouse, who stated Jenkins would only be released when parole board officials no longer judged him a risk to the public.
Jenkins admitted attempted rape at a hearing, and later, his mitigation argued that although he initially denied the crime, he now fully accepts his actions.
