COLIN MILTON, CHILD SEX OFFENDER FROM BLACKPOOL, SENT BACK TO PRISON
In October 2012, Colin Milton, a convicted child sex offender from Blackpool, was re-incarcerated. Milton, aged 45, was sentenced to four years for the sexual assault of a girl under 13, whom he met through her family. Previously, he served a six-year sentence for various sex offences, including raping a child.Earlier this year, Milton touched the girl over her clothing on two occasions while alone with her. Preston Crown Court was informed that, in August 2009, a sexual offences prevention order had been issued against Milton, prohibiting him from having any unsupervised contact with children under 16.
Prosecutor Paul Brookwell explained that a man familiar with Milton introduced him to his partner, and Milton visited her home approximately ten times. During these visits, Milton revealed to the man that he had a conviction for having sex with a girl under 16. This information was passed on to Milton’s partner, who then spoke to her daughter. The girl disclosed that she had been sexually assaulted twice.
Milton, of the rear of Henry Street in Blackpool, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and breaching the sexual offences prevention order.
His defense lawyer, John Woodward, noted that Milton’s guilty pleas spared the girl from having to testify in court. He stated, “He recognises he has done wrong. He doesn’t feel his behaviour would have increased.”
Mr. Woodward also described Milton as leading a solitary life with no family or friends, saying, “He craves a family-like environment. He has extremely low self-esteem and feels unable to form relationships with females of his own age.”
Judge Jonathan Gibson sentenced Milton to six years of extended license, meaning he will be supervised upon release. The judge remarked, “It seems to me you are a person who is certainly at the present time unable to control yourself in situations of that kind. You obviously have a sexual interest in young girls.”
Milton remains on the sex offenders register indefinitely and is subject to the ongoing restrictions of the sexual offences prevention order.
