COLIN DAVIES TUNSTALL ARMY CADET SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR GROOMING AND ABUSE

In April 2016, a disturbing case emerged involving Colin Davies, a staff sergeant in the army cadets based in Tunstall, who was found guilty of sexually abusing two vulnerable schoolgirls. The case drew significant attention due to the nature of the crimes and the profile of the offender, who was described by the presiding judge as a 'predatory sexual beast.'

Colin Davies, aged 31 and a father of three, systematically groomed the young girls before engaging in sexual activities with them. His actions were uncovered after one of the victims confided in a friend about having performed a sexual act on him. Prosecutor Andrew Baker told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court that on one occasion, Davies took one of the girls to a tunnel where he encouraged her to perform a sexual act on him, after which he reciprocated by performing a sexual act on her.

Following these revelations, Davies was arrested. During police interviews, he displayed a resigned attitude, stating, 'I am a man. I will take my punishment. I will take it on the chin.' The court also heard that a second girl came forward, revealing that Davies had touched her inappropriately. She explained that they had connected via Facebook, exchanged naked pictures, and that Davies repeatedly asked her for more indecent images and invited her to visit him at his home.

According to the second victim, she eventually went to Davies's residence in Tunstall and performed a sexual act on him. During subsequent police interviews, Davies admitted to contacting her through Facebook and expressed a disturbing hope of having a future relationship with her once she was of age.

Davies, residing on Westbourne Drive in Tunstall, pleaded guilty to six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child and one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. His actions prompted a strong response from the court, emphasizing the severity of his misconduct.

Legal representative Barry White acknowledged Davies's remorse, stating that the defendant was angry and disappointed with himself. Mr. White emphasized that Davies recognized he had no future outside prison and that his actions had destroyed his life and the lives of his victims. He expressed that Davies fully accepted responsibility and was genuinely remorseful, offering only apologies for his conduct.

Judge David Fletcher sentenced Davies to five years in prison and imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order. This order prohibits him from forming relationships or befriending any child under the age of 16. Additionally, Davies was placed on the sex offenders' register for life.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Fletcher described the case as highly concerning. He highlighted that Davies was aware of the girls' vulnerability and young age, yet he continued to manipulate and abuse them. The judge condemned Davies's warped perception that his actions brought happiness to the victims, calling it a clear sign of his predatory nature. The judge also referenced statements from the victims' mothers, which painted a harrowing picture of the damage inflicted. One mother described how her daughter's childhood had been stolen from her, a consequence of Davies's selfish sexual gratification.

Judge Fletcher concluded by condemning Davies's grooming behavior as one of the worst he had encountered, emphasizing that Davies's actions had left two children with lives forever altered. He reaffirmed the label of 'predatory sexual beast,' underscoring the gravity of Davies's misconduct and the profound impact on the victims and their families.
